The magenta-colored sapphire bushes flourish in the white sandbanks, and the dunes are terra cotta in color.
Like the Dead Sea, Lake Retba is sufficiently buoyant, as people can easily float in it. The pink hue in the lake is most vivid during the dry season than the rainy season.
The lake separates from the Atlantic Ocean only by a narrow corridor of dunes, and the water is so clean that it is perfectly fit for human consumption or swimming.
Djemma el Fna – Morocco
This is the world’s most exciting town square that would constantly remind you that you are in Africa. Marrakesh’s old city, where the square is, has stalls set up from the sleepy afternoon heat until the night falls. The desert dunes usually shift by several yards each year, and therefore its landscape is ever-changing annually. The highest temperature ever recorded at Sahara Dunes is 136 Fahrenheit Degrees, about 58 degrees Celsius.
The desert is full of archaeological and paleontological wonders, from 6000-year-old megalithic stone circles, Saharan rock paintings, and unique dinosaur fossils that scientists have discovered. Last year, scientists discovered an 80 million-year-old dinosaur fossil in the Saharian Oasis named Mansourasaurus shahinae.
The rest of the desert comprises sand, seas, salt flats, rivers, streams, stone plateaus, mountains, and oases. Another fun fact for star wars fans; Sahara Dunes was set to shoot the Star Wars movie as the Matmata, the fictional village in the movie where Luke Skywalker grew up.
Lake Nakuru national Park – Kenya
Nakuru National Park is famous for the Flamingos that flock to its shores to feed on cyanobacteria that live in its alkaline waters. Sometimes of the year, almost 1 to 2 million flamingos form a massive pink band around Lake Nakuru’s edge.
Nakuru National Park also has the greatest concentrations of Black Rhino in the World. It also has a thriving population of White Rhinos. It is also a sanctuary for the rare Rothschild Giraffe and is also one of Kenya’s best places to see Leopards.
The climate at Lake Nakuru National Park is moderate, but sometimes it can be humid. The area has two wet seasons, from March to May and then from October to December. The rain is usually as short as heavy downpours in the early afternoon. Otherwise, the weather is fine.
Mount Kilimanjaro – Tanzania
Kilimanjaro rises majestically above the African Plains. Kilimanjaro, the 20,000-foot mountain, is the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain worldwide. It has three volcanic cones; Mawenzi, Shira, and Kibo. Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, but Kibo is dormant and may erupt again. The last major eruption happened 360,000 years ago. The majestic mountain is visible from the Amboseli national park.
