Nobu is no strange name to New Yorker’s who love Japanese cuisine, that is of course if one is willing to splurge on all the delicacies it has to offer. Nobu has been an instant hit in the past few years, but now due to rent increase the chain is moving it’s location from Tribeca to downtown.
23 years ago, world renowned Japanese chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, opened up his now global empire, Nobu in Tribeca. With its unique setting and delicious food, it was a hit and prompted 30 more locations to be opened all over the globe. Rent increase, which is becoming an issue every day in Manhattan, has caused a changed in location for Nobu, but for the better.
Nobu has moved to a grand location, the financial district. Located in a magnificent commercial building, which was the home to the AT&T headquarters, it now has a spacious lounge and will be situated on two floors of the lobby of the building. With its marble columns and modern twist, it will be a much more different approach than its previous location.
The restaurant is scheduled to open next week and is already taking reservations, while lunch service is expected to start sometime in between April 10th through the 17th. Since Matsuhisa has always had a different way of cooking his food, due to his mix of blending Peruvian ingredients with typical Japanese dishes, the restaurant has a twist of Japanese and Peruvian decor. Matsuhisa’s distinct style comes from working and living in the South American country.
The 152 seat dining room is going to be twice the size of the Tribeca location, giving room for more guests to come and enjoy. It will also have private dining areas, something new that the old location did not have. In one end of the main dining area there will be an open kitchen, with a sushi bar in front. One of the greatest hits is Nobu’s black cod miso, and rock shrimp tempura that comes with a creamy spicy sauce.
