Regarding the Duke of Sussex’s latest podcast interview, Palace aides call on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to relinquish their respective royal titles.
Harry featured on the most recent episode of Dax Shepard and Monica Padman’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, where he sat for a freewheeling conversation about his childhood in the royal family’s “privileged” world. He compared it to “The Truman Show,” “a zoo,” and noting the “pain and suffering” his father, Prince Charles, put him through.
The openness of the dialogue, along with the fact that the incident occurred only a month after Harry traveled to the United Kingdom to pay his respects to his late grandfather, Prince Philip, has perplexed many Palace aides why Harry hasn’t entirely relinquished his royal titles.
“People are appalled that he could do this to the Queen when the Duke of Edinburgh is barely in his grave,’ said one aide. ‘To drag his grandfather into this is so shocking and disrespectful,” one senior courtier reportedly told The Daily Mail.
Prince Harry said that he wished to leave the royal family while he was in his twenties: ‘look what it did to my mom.’
“The Duke of Sussex has now spent a significant amount of time emphasizing that he’s no different to anyone else and attacking the institution which he says has caused him so much pain. There is a growing feeling that if you dislike the institution that much, you shouldn’t have the titles,” they added.
During the podcast, Harry discussed mental health and wasn’t afraid to get intimate about how his childhood influenced his worldview.
“He treated me the way he was treated,” the Duke of Sussex said of his father on the episode.
It has long been speculated that Prince Charles’ father, Prince Charles, has a strained relationship with his parents, Queen Elizabeth II and the late Prince Philip.
According to Harry, the relationship has been fraught for years, who considered leaving the royal lifestyle in his “early 20s.” The remark put an end to the notion that his wife was the driving force behind his decision to leave home.
“It’s a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway,” he said. “So we as parents should do the most we can to say, ‘You know what? That happened to me, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.”
Though the “Armchair Expert” episode may have been the last straw for many, it’s not the first time the Duke of Sussex has seemed to be slandering the royal family. Both Markle Meghan and Prince Harry made headlines in March when they sat down for a candid interview with Oprah Winfrey, during which they accused the royal family of bigotry.
