Manhattan is known for having some of the most exclusive hotels in the business. The Plaza, The St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton, Gansevoort, the list goes on and on.
We’ve all heard these hotels in movies or even just stepping foot in Manhattan, but a new hotel could be making headlines come August. Once an old abandoned building, The Beekman Hotel is opening it’s doors come August. What was supposed to be a grand opening in February was moved to August due to restorations and other factors, although the February date was never set in stone.
Developer Allen Gross, purchased the property in 2011 and had the idea to refurbish it all and give it the same look it had before it turned into an abandoned building. He decided to make it into a hotel for its economic use. The building is located on Beekman St, downtown near the Brooklyn Bridge and City Hall.
Restoring the building has not been easy as it is not new and repairs were needed badly. Many railings and banisters needed to be raised. Constructed in 1883, and used for office space, it gave off to 200 businesses such as accountants, lawyers, and more. Famous faces have presented in the building such as Edgar Allen Poe, and a debut of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. In 1950 it closed down and was used again in 2012 for H&M and in 2013 for Proenza Schouler’s fashion show.
Once finished, it will feature 287 guest rooms and 45 suites. There will be two special suites known as the “turret” suites, which will give access to the rooftop. With it’s iconic atrium, the lobby will include a bar and two restaurants, which are set to open in August when the hotel does as well.
A grand opening offer is set to take place in honor of it s opening. More information can be found on the link below.
