Billie Eilish, the 19-year-old singer, and songwriter released Your Power. The track has been a success with more than 24 million views on YouTube. The song featured some dauntingly emotional territory, Billie Eilish went through.
Furthermore, the artist also revealed the title, track list and release date for her highly anticipated sophomore album, Happier Than Ever. Happier Than Ever is due for release on July 30, 2021.
The Your Power video shows Billie in a desert with a large snake draped around her neck.
The Meaning Behind The Lyrics
The lyrics for the song tell an even more slimy story, as she coos:
“She was sleeping in your clothes (In your clothes) / But now she’s got to get to class / How dare you? And how could you? / Will you only feel bad when they find out? / If you could take it all back, would you?”
The American singer has now opened up on the exact meaning of the song.
She posted a clip of the music video on her Instagram account with the caption: “Your Power song and video out now. This is one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written.” (sic)
Billie explained her song by saying:
“I feel very vulnerable putting this one out because I hold it so close to my heart. This is about many different situations that we’ve all either witnessed or experienced. I hope this can inspire change. Try not to abuse your power.”
Billie’s song seems to call on the harrowing events of the #MeToo movement that shook Hollywood just a few years ago. Moreover, her stark lyrics certainly cut to the bone and follow the trend of the young star speaking out against injustice when she sees it.
Just last year, the singer called out the American police force following the tragic murder of George Floyd.
The Fans’ Reactions
Fans were ecstatic about the new song and its content, with one commenting: “There are tears streaming down my face.” (sic)
Another added: “This is absolutely beautiful.”
This is the third song from Billie’s forthcoming second album, Happier Than Ever.
Your Power follows my future and Therefore I Am – the latter of which went platinum in Australia and Canada earlier this year. Billie announced the new album will be released on July 30, 2021.
This date is particularly special for the singer as it holds a strong connection to her brother and musical partner, Finneas O’Connell.
