Demi Lovato says she finds The Bigg Chill disgusting. She took it to Instagram to complain about her experience. Demi declared war against the business by lashing out at it to her 102 million followers on Instagram.
“Finding it extremely hard to order froyo from The Bigg Chill when you have to walk past tons of sugar-free cookies/other diet foods before you get to the counter. Do better please.”
Besides that, the pop icon added the hashtag ‘#DietCultureVultures’. A few minutes later she posted again.
“So, I think I’m gonna have to make that hashtag a thing. I will be calling harmful messaging from brands or companies that perpetuate a society that not only enables but praises disordered eating.”
Later, The Bigg Chill responded to her on their Instagram page with 7,600 followers.
“We are not diet vultures. We cater to all our customers’ needs for the past 36 years. We are sorry you found this offensive. We carry items for Diabetics, Celiac Disease, Vegan, and of course have many indulgent items as well.”
Demi lashed back. She said, “Your service was terrible.” Demi Lovato harshly spat back at the business.
“The whole thing was triggered and awful. You can carry things for other people while also carrying for another percentage of customers who struggle DAILY just to even step foot in your store. You can provide an environment for all people with different needs, including eating disorders – one of the deadliest mental illnesses, only second to opioid overdoses. Don’t make excuses, just do better.”
Piers Morgan Disconcerted
Mr. Morgan took it to Twitter, standing up for The Bigg Chill.
“The 28-year-old multi-millionaire pop singer was so disgusted by her experience at The Bigg Chill that she declared war on the store yesterday, on her Instagram page to her 102 million followers. How dare she try to destroy The Big Chill simply for doing its job, one that it does very well to widespread popular acclaim? Who the hell does Demi Lovato think she is?”
Some followers said Piers Morgan bullies successful women – especially those of color. And here is what he told the person:
“a) I love women (but not all of them). b) I love women of color (but not all of them). c) The bully in this story is Demi Lovato. d) My criticism has nothing to do with her gender or skin color–it’s because she’s tried to run a small family business in a pandemic.”
Besides that, Piers Morgan also said, “Not a day goes by without some celebrity somewhere claiming to feel ‘triggered’ by something, mainly to weaponize their victimhood, raise their profile and make money.”
The Bigg Chill
In Los Angeles, Westwood, the family-run business has been going on for 36 years. The Bigg Chill is all about frozen yogurt. They have over 400 different flavors serving almost 1000 customers a day. Diane Dinow and her daughter, Cary Russel are the owners of The Bigg Chill.
Demi Lovato’s Apologies
In a private message, Demi told the business, “Don’t keep going w this. You don’t want to mess w me. You’re in the wrong and the customer is always right… do better”.
On Monday, Demi went live on Instagram.
“I’m sorry that I may have got the messaging wrong. I’m sorry that I may have disappointed some people,” Demi Lovato said.
“When I messaged this froyo place, originally I wanted to make a point, and I wanted to call out behaviors or branding things that didn’t sit right with me. As someone who deals with an eating disorder and is in recovery from an eating disorder, I still to this day have a hard time walking into a froyo shop, ordering yogurt and being content with it and keeping it down.”
Besides that, she also said, “I know that seems like not a tremendous deal to many people, but to me it is.”
According to Demi, the place does not meet ‘specific health needs’.
