No one will forget the day Captain. Chesley Sullengerger, miraculously landed a plane into the Hudson River as a flock of geese struck the plane’s engine, causing panic in the sky for a few minutes. He was dubbed a hero for his ability to land the plane on water and have no fatalities. Not only did he land a plane on water, he landed on brick cold water, as the scheduled flight took place in the brutal cold Winter of 2009. It was an act no one would forget, and seven years later a movie was made to commemorate the heroism of Captain ‘Sully’.

Sully, directed by Clint Eastwood, was released on Friday. The movie has already received good reviews and was praised for the portrayal of Sully and his actions during those frightening moments on that US Airways flight. Tom Hanks played the role as Sully, while Aaron Eckhart plays the role of co-pilot Jeff Skiles.

With Eastwood bringing on the notoriously famous films about historical events such as American Sniper, Invictus, Flags of our Fathers, and Letters from Iwo Jima, to name a few, it was no surprise that he directed the film on the ‘miracle on the Hudson’.

Hanks has once again been praised for bringing the helplessness to the character of Sully. A credit that could only go to an actor like Tom Hanks. The movie has been credited to having it’s success from Hanks and Eastwood, and is already having predictions on whether or not Hanks and the film will receive an Oscar nomination.

After the movie was released all attention went back to Captain Sully, who has since the incident, been working as an aviation and safety expert on CBS news, has written two books, and is a speaker. The plane is displayed in the Carolina’s Aviation Museum in North Carolina’s Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
