Unless you have been living under a rock, then you have most definitely heard of the new craze that is sweeping the nation: Pokemon Go. This augmented reality smartphone app created by Niantic has people of all ages going outside and exploring a plethora of new places in their home area to search for these adorable creatures. While the game is a lot of fun, it can be difficult to hunt down Pokemon and take down gyms when you live in an area that doesn’t harbor a lot of excitement. That is why trainers are heading to New York City to get in on all of the action, and become the very best. As a lifelong Pokemon fanatic who has done a lot of playing in the city here is a guide from one trainer to another that can help you make the most out of your Pokemon city experience.

Get acquainted with the parks:

On a nice summer day, there is no better place to go than one of NYC’s beautiful parks. These parks are beckoning trainers to bask in their beauty, and take a well-needed rest at their sheer numbers of Poke Stops. Poke Stops allow players to collect items needed in their journeys, such as Pokeballs, potions, and eggs. Not only are the parks great for collecting, but they are also habitats with a lot of cellular data that attract more Pokemon needed to fill up your dex. Central Park, Bryant Park, and Washington Square Park are only a few to name, but try them all for your benefit!

Take advantage of events and local businesses:

You’re in the city, which means that there is most likely some sort of big or small event happening somewhere near you. Events and local businesses are usually hotspots for trainers, and not a lot of places are offering discounts and special offers to attract players all around. Just make sure you’re going to a place where your team is accepted. (Not that you need to worry about that if you’re on Team Mystic, which is the best team.)

Be battery conscious:

This may be the most important tip, because even though this game is a lot of fun, it can drain your entire battery before you can say, “I found a wild Cubone!” To be conscious of your phone’s battery power, make sure you bring a portable charger with you wherever you go. Also, mess around with your settings a bit, turning off sound effects, and turning on battery saver mode, which drains less battery when your phone is turned upside down. This ensures that you will have enough time all day to catch Pokemon and have enough battery to call your friend when you guys get separated.

Of course, there are many other little tips and tricks to make the most out of your Pokemon journey, but those are the best for a beginners guide. Now, get out there, and happy hunting!
